This site maintains an extensive schedule of bicycling events sponsored by clubs and organizations throughout Arizona. Based on the West side of Phoenix, The Bull Shifters Bicycling Club has a variety of fast recreational rides venturing into most parts of the valley. The mission of the CCC is to promote interest and involvement in all aspects of bicycling, focusing on three main areas: recreational riding, racing, and advocacy. They provide group riding and racing opportunities. Based in Sierra Vista in the southeast part of the state, the Dawn To Dust Mountain Bike Club organizes mountain bike rides and teaches advanced mountain bike techniques. The club also performs trail maintainence and other community services. The site has complete club information and a list of trails in the Sierra Vista area. If you are new to cycling in sunny Tucson, Arizona or have just wanted to get that trusty two-wheeled steed out of the garage and on to the pavement, but have been scared off by all the "hammer head" road clubs you've seen buzzing around town, take a look at the DooDahs. This club rides in the pursuit of fun and is dedicated to the fundamentals of cycling. The Fair Wheel Racing Team (FWRT) is a group of 75 (and growing) cyclists and racers in Tucson, Arizona. The team promotes four USCF races each year, including the Tucson Criterium Series and the Tumacacori Road Race. This is the site for GABA's Tucson Chapter. McDowell Cycling is a cycling group based in Scottsdale, Arizona. Most of their rides outline the beautiful McDowell Mountains. The site has ride schedule, routes, forums and photos. The Tucson-based organization was established to organize perimeter events and to encourage cyclists to bicycle perimeters of towns, cities, states, countries, and any geographical boundary. P.B.A.A. produces and promotes El Tour de Tucson, Tour of the Tucson Mountains, Cochise County Cycling Classic, and El Tour de Phoenix. View information and results from these well known rides as well as various P.B.A.A. world records. The Prescott Cycling Club, formerly the Prescott Chain Gang, is based in Prescott, Arizona. The Prescott Cycling Club has road and mountain bike rides. Members include riders of all abilities and interests. They are located in the cool pines of Northern Arizona where they enjoy fantastic weather year-round as well as spectacular scenery. The Red Mountain Brumbys is a group of cyclists who predominantly live in Mesa and Gilbert, Arizona. The invite anyone who would enjoy an early morning or weekly Saturday ride to come join them for a spin. Saguaro Velo is a USCF registered club of around 40 riders based in Tucson, Arizona. They have a variety of skill levels in the club, but the majority can be classified as fast recreational riders. Based in the Phoenix Metro area, San Tan Racing is a competitive cycling team presented by Paragon Cycling in Mesa, Arizona and comprised of road cyclists, mountain bikers, and triathletes. The Sonoran Desert Mountain Bicyclists is a mountain bike club riding out of Tucson, Arizona, that works to improve mountain biking opportunities in the area. They put on mountain bike rides and events for mountain bikers of all skill levels. SAMBA is a recreational mountain biking club mainly riding in the mountains or desert around Tucson, Arizona. They offer rides suited to varied skill levels, and encourage beginners. Non-members and new mountain bikers are welcome. Summit Velo, Inc. was created in 1999 with a mission to promote premier races, support and promote an elite cycling team as well as to encourage recreational cycling in Northern Arizona. Team One Racing is a USCF Masters bicycle racing team based in Scottsdale, Arizona and is recognized as a National-level amateur racing team. They have group rides of all levels throughout the week and weekends. Thursday is their popular espresso rides. This is a very social group riding to different coffee shops in town. The Wheezers and Geezers are a bicycle-riding group that meets every Saturday morning in Paradise Valley near Phoenix. On the site you'll find links to news, ride information, and photo galleries. The White Mountain Road Club is a USCF affiliated bicycle racing club based in Phoenix, Arizona. White Mountain hosts the annual John Earley Memorial Valley of the Sun Stage Race each February. This race attracts many top amateur and professional racers from around the country. Arizona Government: City, State, Regional, Advocacy Contains information on ADOT's (Arizona Department of Transportation) Statewide Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan. The intent of this plan is to provide a long-term plan for a system of shared roadways and bicycle/pedestrian facilities for roadways under ADOT jurisdiction. Part of the City of Mesa's web site, this page describes what the City of Mesa's Transportation Division is doing to support and encourage bicycling. The Coalition of Arizona Bicyclists is a nonprofit organization devoted to advancing bicycling as a sport and mode of transportation through cooperation with local and state government, by being active in government where it concerns bicycling. Handlebar Helpers is a City of Scottsdale program. They run an "earn a bike" program for youth volunteers and sell refurbished bikes and used parts. Their five focus areas are: encourage volunteerism, provide job and life skills for community youth, provide positive adult role models for at-risk youth, provide reconditioned bicycles to employees who bike to work, promote safe bicycling and environmental stewardship. Pima Association of Governments (PAG) coordinates the regional bicycle planning process among local jurisdictions. The current bicycle network consists of over 600 miles of bicycle lanes, routes and shared-use paths/trails. Prescott Alternative Transportation is a non-profit organization working closely with the City of Prescott and Yavapai County to make the Prescott area bicycle and pedestrian friendly. The Santa Cruz Valley Bicycle Advocate Committee (SCVBAC) is dedicated to seeing continuous improvements made in bicycling safety and enjoyment, and the promotion of bicycling as healthy recreation and alternative transportation throughout the Santa Cruz Valley south of Tucson. Tempe Bicycle Action Group is a nonprofit organization working to make bicycling a prominent, safe and convenient form of transportation and recreation in Tempe, Arizona and surrounding areas through education, grassroots events, and civic participation. Valley Metro Bike and Walk pages provide bicycle safety tips, information on Valley Bike Month, tips for taking your bike on a bus, information on bike stands and lockers, and other resources. The mission of the Verde Valley Cyclists Coalition is to improve the bicycling environment and thereby the quality of life in the region (Sedona/Cottonwood/Camp Verde/Clarkdale/Jerome). Arizona Bike Maps The Arizona Bicycle Route Suitability Map developed by ADOT contains suitability ratings and gradient information of roadways on the State Highway System. Bicycle route suitability ratings of "more suitable" and "less suitable" have been assigned to all roads on the State Highway system where bicycling is allowed. The Glendale Bike Map will help you plan your cycling route throught the City of Glendale, whether it's to exercise, run an errand, commute to work or just enjoy the wonderful weather. You'll also find the map useful in determining the best route to visit Glendale's parks, libraries and other points of interest. The Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG) is a Council of Governments that serves as the regional agency for the metropolitan Phoenix area. MAG provides a regional forum for analysis, discussion and resolution of issues including areas of transportation, air quality, environment, regional development and social services. MAG produces an excellent bicycle route map titled "Bikeways in the Metropolitan Phoenix Area" which was updated in 2001. The map can be downloaded as two Adobe Acrobat PDF format files. Go to their site and click the "Maps" link. Many people use the SRP canal banks for recreation, such as running and biking. The SRP canal map highlights each canal in a different color. You can view distances between points along a specific canal. The SRP canal map is also available for download. Arizona Rides and Races The goal of the Arizona Endurance Bike Series is to promote responsible grassroots endurance racing in Arizona, and to provide a competitive outlet for the state’s current endurance racers - most of whom currently go out of state to compete. The AEBS will help train current endurance riders and perhaps enhance success by Arizonans in national events. Le Grande Tour Bike Challenge is an annual bike challenge sponsored by Arizona Parks and Recreation Association in and around Casa Grande, Arizona. The ride, which is usually held in March, has three ride options: 100K, 50K and 10 miles. Information on the bike MS: Round Up Ride in Florence, AZ. A benefit ride for Homeless Children. Ride 25 or 50 miles through scenic Paradise Valley or do a 3 mile family bike ride/walk along Scottsdale's greenbelt. The course is well-marked and winds through 10 to 25 miles of the most beautiful back roads in Paradise Valley. Organized by The Rogers Group, Inc, Sponsored by Absolute bikes the Sedona Century is a 40 mile or metric century ride through beautiful red rocks, river crossings, desert views and historic Arizona sites held in May and starting from the Old Town Mission in Historic Old Town Cottonwood. Sponsored by the American Diabetes Association the Tour de Cure is an event to raise funds to fight the epidemic of diabetes with ride options for riders of all athletic abilities.
